I am a big proponent of the Freedom of Speech, protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution (Oh yeah...That's it! The Consititution...Thanks!). But I believe in it, in its true form, of protecting the People from the Government censoring what we say. So a few years ago, when The Dixie Chics were screaming that their First Amendment Rights were being infringed, as people (aka: American citizens) were destroying their CDs en mass, that was not a First Amendment issue. That was a group of citizens exercising their First Amendment rights in response to the ladies exercising their First Amendment rights...With me so far?
With that being said, my Thought Police alarms started going off when I read about this. Now, if Rachel Maddow, or Keith Olbermann, or Democrat/Leftist/Liberal/Progressive bloggers, or even Former President Carter wanted to set-up a site to protest what Rush had to say about President Obama, more power to them! They have just as much of a right to actively participate in open buffoonery as the rest of us, as they are all private citizens. But, when sitting politicians begin to actively participate in protesting what a private citizen says, that crosses the line, in my humble opinion. Rush has every right to say whatever he wants. As does Randi Rhodes and Al Franken (until he becomes a Senator, if he becomes a Senator). But it concerns me greatly when an official committee of a political party (that is led by sitting politicians) begins to take on what a private citizens says. I might not agree with everything Rush says, but he has the right to say it.
