Are the Mayans right?

As we know, the Mayans and other early civilizations prophesied about the world ending in 2012...According to Bloomberg, the US Debt will exceed GDP in 2012. I don't know if I should interpret this as the end of the world in a metaphorical sense, or really be rooting for the giant asteroid to put us all out of our misery....
